
Dr. Umair Javed is Assistant Professor of Politics and Sociology at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). His doctoral research focused on the politics and practices of accumulation, and labour relations in Pakistan’s informal economy, with a specific focus on the retail-wholesale (bazaar) sector. His academic work has been published in Economic and Political Weekly, Current History, and Catalyst: A Journal of Theory and Strategy. He has also contributed book chapters to volumes published by Routledge, Cambridge University Press, and the Australian National University Press. His ongoing research engagements include studying the development of welfare interventions under democratic and authoritarian regimes in Pakistan; and a comparative study of the politics of taxation, zakat, and charitable giving in Pakistan, Egypt, and Morocco.
