Dr. Sajal Lahiri

Dr. Sajal Lahiri studied Statistics at the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, obtaining B.Stat. (Hons) in 1971, M.Stat. in 1972 and Ph.D. in 1976. He worked at the Perspective Planning Division of the Indian Planning Commission during 1976-77, and then moved to the United Kingdom where he stayed until 2002. Here, he worked at the University of Essex (1978-2002); since 2002 he holds an endowed chair at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale. In 2016, he was also made a Distinguished Scholar there. Dr. Lahiri has written extensively on issues related to international and development economics including work on tax policy reform in Pakistan; he was a member of the Restrictive Practices Court in the UK to hear a case on Retail Price Maintenance involving medicaments in 2001. He is also a founding editor of Review of Development Economics.
