Mueen Afzal
Chairperson of the Board of Directors

Mr. Mueen Afzal joined the Civil Service of Pakistan in 1964 and until his early retirement, held a number of important positions. He was Finance Secretary in the Government of Pakistan (96-98) and also in the Provinces of Punjab (84-86) and Baluchistan (81-84). He served as Health Secretary in Islamabad (95-96) and in various positions with the provincial Government of Punjab, Baluchistan and East Pakistan. Mr. Afzal finally worked as Secretary General, Finance and Economic Affairs, with the Government from 1999 to 2002. He was awarded the Hilal-I-Imtiaz in the Independence Day Honours List in 2002.
After leaving government employment in 2002, Mr Afzal held a number of positions in the corporate sector. He was chairman of the boards of directors, at different points of time, of the Union Bank of Pakistan, of the Pakistan Tobacco Company and of Akzo Nobel Pakistan. He was also a director on the board of ICI, Pakistan, until its sale to the present owners.
At present, Mr Afzal is chairman of Murree Brewery Co., Rawalpindi. He is also chairman of the Langlands Endowment Trust, a charity which promotes education in Chitral, and a trustee of Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust, a charity which is committed to providing quality education to non-privileged students in an industrial suburb of Lahore. He continues as a founding director on the board of Beaconhouse National University in Lahore, as well as on the board of directors of The Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy.
