Anjum Halai

Board Member

Professor Anjum Halai is a Vice Provost at the Aga Khan University Pakistan. She has longstanding experience of working in the higher education sector in Pakistan and internationally. She has demonstrated strong leadership in building higher education institutions through establishing policy and governance system, academic budget development, academic space management, steering new academic initiatives, senior academic recruitment, government liaison, relationship building with international and national stakeholder in higher education.

She has a well-established academic profile, with experience of teaching at graduate and postgraduate levels, a strong track record of research grant income, more than 100 scholarly papers in reputable forums, and several co-edited books. Her research interests are in social justice issues in education especially on the basis of gender and language. She led the Task Force in AKU to develop policy on awareness and prevention of gender-based harassment. She is an advisor to the strategic committee on Women’s Leadership Academy at AKU. She is an invited member of the Women’s Leadership Group set up by Higher Education Commission Pakistan. Her research interests include mathematics teacher. She has been elected as Vice President in the influential Executive Committee of the International Commission of Mathematical Instruction: https://www.mathunion.org/icmi/icmi-executive-committee-2021-2024 .

Dr. Halai was a member of the General Education Advisory Board of the Open Society Foundation New York (2015-2017). She served as an adjunct professor (2011-2016) at the University of Alberta Canada and was a research fellow at the University of Sussex UK.
