Criminalising Child Domestic Labour In Pakistan

In this podcast, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq- Chairperson of the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC)- speaks to IDEAS Senior Fellow Dr. Faisal Bari about recent cases of child domestic labour in Pakistan, particularly the case of 14 year old Rizwana who was brutally tortured by her employers in Islamabad, Pakistan. The mandate of the NCRC is to provide policy and legislative guidelines on issues of child rights, inquire into violations of child rights, create awareness and lead advocacy efforts, and to steer evidence-based research to support the provincial and federal government in drafting legislation around protecting child rights. Ms. Farooq shares recent efforts of lawmakers to criminalise child domestic labour and make it a non-compoundable, non-bailable offense.
