Laiba Farooq is a Research Assistant working with Dr. Rabea Malik, the CEO and Research Fellow at IDEAS, and Dr. Tayyaba Mamim, on their Research Project Gender Class and Social Norms. She graduated in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

Prior to this, she served as a Research Assistant for Professor Sikander Ahmed Shah, a founding member at Sheikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law at LUMS, specializing in Public International Law. Her research contribution lied on the problem of statelessness in Pakistan, notably in the context of the expulsion of 1.7 million Afghan refugees in 2023, emphasizing the necessity for an effective policy.

Laiba’s primary research relates to the reinforcement or disruption of intergenerational gender norms through education as part of the Gender, Class and Social Norms Project. In her future pursuits, she aims to delve into the realm of gender-based poverty, drawn by the intersection of gender parity and economic turbulence within Pakistan.
